On May 10th, a fire broke out at the Saraf House, located near the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata.
Councilor Santosh Pathak accused the building of being an illegal construction, to which Mayor Firhad Hakim responded by saying he was unaware of the accusation. Hakim added that if any illegal activity did occur, councilors should have reported it earlier. Despite this, he has promised to investigate the matter by going to the corporation.
The fire caused panic in the area, and several fire tenders were called to extinguish the flames. Luckily, there were no reports of casualties, but the building suffered significant damage.\
